1. Why did you start @mormon_modesty_fashion?
About two years ago, I started getting into fashion and found this website where you can put together outfits. I loved it and wanted to share the modest outfits I had made. I had seen some mormon Instagram accounts and thought to myself what If I made an account that I can share my beliefs on modesty and the gospel. I never thought that this account would turn into what it is today.
2. What has been your biggest challenge running the account?
I would say my biggest challenge running this account is coming up with post I think people would like . I make and design all my outfits, edits of quote, etc. It can take up to an hour of editing. It can be hard to make an outfit because it’s hard find cute, modest clothes and put them together to make an outfit.
3. You have a fantastic sense of humor. Where do you find your humorous memes?
Once in a while I post mormon memes. I like to have a variety of post on my account. My followers love my humorous, Mormon memes. Those get the most likes out of all my post. I find lots of them on other mormon accounts but some I make myself. I just see something or some pictures that would make a hilarious meme and then edit the picture into a meme.
4. What challenges do you see in the lives of LDS girls?
LDS girls have many challenges in their lives. We all face different challenges but some of the challenges we have in common with others . LDS girls can have challenges such as finding good friends , modesty, temptations, and much more.
One very difficult challenge we can face is trying to follow church standards when lots of people around us are not.
One of my favorites quotes from Thomas S. Monson is, “Dare to be a Mormon. Dare to stand alone. Dare to have a purpose firm. Dare to make it known.”
Sometimes we have to stand alone. You might be the only one in your group of friends that decides not to cheat . Maybe you are the only girl that decides to dress modestly.
It is hard to stand alone, but sometimes we have to. We should stand up for what we believe in. In our daily challenges we need to remember that we always have the Savior by our side. We can always turn to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ when we need it . They love us and will help us as long as we are doing our best.
5. What advice would you give to a girl whose parents aren’t supportive of her efforts to dress modestly?
You have the choice to dress modestly or not. If your parents are not supportive of you dressing modestly, then you can choose by yourself to dress modestly. When we choose to dress modestly, we gain respect. The way we dress can influence the way we act the way others act. We should be a good influence on others.
Also dress modestly because you know that is what your Heavenly Father wants you to do. Gain a testimony of and relationship with your Heavenly Fathers. A relationship with your Heavenly Father can lead to a testimony in so many other aspects in the church. My dad once taught a lesson in church about testimonies. If we have a testimony about one aspect in the church it can lead to a testimony in an other. If you have or gain a testimony about the church, we can know the truthfulness about the standards we have been given.
7. Leaders talk a lot about modesty. What kind of advice/counsel is most useful?
I once saw this quote by Carol F. McConkie that said, “If the Savior stood beside us would we feel comfortable in the clothing we wear, or would we hide.” I love this quote. We should always dress how we would want to dress if we were talking to the Savior. We should show that we are disciples of Christ by the way we present our. When you are modest you set are an example and show what you believe in.
I get lots of my counsel about respectful dressing from The For Strength of Youth in the dress and appearance section. It explains what why we should dress modestly, and much more. If you ever need more counsel, I would recommend reading there.
8. What else would you like to share? I’m all ears.
I’m so thankful I have this account. I’ve had a couple of my followers say that my account has helped them choose to dress respectfully. That makes me so grateful and happy that I can help others through social media. Having this account has strengthened my testimony as well. I want to be a good example. I believe we should all dress like the children of God we are.
