It’s a new year and your head (and journals) are probably full of plans, goals and dreams. We have a red notebook at our house where we record goals for everyone in the family at the beginning of the year. At the end of the year, we look back at that book and see if we accomplished those goals. Good news! Everyone at our house is potty-trained and has learned how to walk and talk (goals of years’ past). We also take a few minutes and talk about the surprises of the past year–the happy things we never could have anticipated. That list includes accomplishments (like a great test score) as well as our favorites books, albums and movies of the year (favorite movie? La La Land!), and visits from friends–old and new.
One of the best surprises of 2016 was RubyGirl. Sure, I’d been planning the site in 2015, but I never could have guessed the way so many people would come together to create this beautiful, welcoming space. At RubyGirl, we have writers and photographers from all over the world who constantly amaze us with the words and images they share.
We’ve been so spoiled with wonder, but we’re still feeling a little greedy. So, we want more! We’re looking for more writers and artists to amaze us with their powerful words and inspiring images–we need YOU! We’d love to hear more of your voices, see more of your photos and artwork, we’d absolutely LOVE to feature your videos on the site (we’d especially welcome anything funny–essays, memes, videos). I know you have something to share. You can submit right here or email your ideas to rubygirlorg@gmail.com.
One more favor–the last one today, I promise–we’d love to read your comments. One of our primary goals at RubyGirl is creating a community where girls and women all over the world can talk to each other, find friends, and solve problems. And so far we’ve been a lot like the Sunday School class where the teacher does all the talking (my least favorite kind of class). We want a discussion! We want to get to know you.
As a little incentive, we’re giving away 10 FREE RubyGirl “Be Amazing” t-shirts today. Just comment here or on Instagram and tell us what you’d like to read or write about on RubyGirl this year. Or send us an idea for a video! We’ll choose 5 people from here and 5 from Instagram and mail your lovely t-shirt right away.
No one makes money at RubyGirl, no one gains any fame; we’re here because we love you and we care about you. It’s a big, crazy world out there, but you’re never alone, and we want you to know.

January 12, 2017 at 1:20 pmHello! I discovered Ruby Girl a couple months ago when my friend wrote an article on here and shared it on Facebook. I love getting uplifting posts in my email every day! I would love to see something written for young women who are transitioning into young adulthood. I’m a senior in high school and heading off to college in the fall, and it’s super exciting, but also a bit scary!

January 12, 2017 at 2:28 pmI love ruby girl. Thank you so much for creating this website. I have been able to find so many great ideas. Maybe this year I can get to posting an article, but I really enjoy just reading about spiritual experiences that other girls my age have recently had. It helps me a lot.

January 12, 2017 at 6:29 pmHi! I love getting messages everyday. I feel like they’re “little packages of light.” Plus, I love that they only take 2 minutes to read. I enjoy writing, and have actually thought about submitting something here. I would love to see are more guest’s posts (Al Fox Carraway, Tamu Smith, Zandra Vranes, Josie Soloman etc. There are so many amazing people to learn from!) If you’re looking for videos to share, a lot of them have a couple youtube videos, plus if your into missionary prep “Prepare to Serve!” Is a great YouTube channel. I would also like more stories, like service stories, spiritual experiences, and hilarious stories. I think a regular Q&A would be cool, where YW can ask honest questions and get honest answers. Once in a while, book, music, movie, exercise, and fashion suggestions would be interesting. Also one of my resolutions this year was to serve for 15-20 minutes per day, I would love to hear about service opportunities. Something I’ve seen other blogs do is share a scripture story or a scripture and then share insight or how they see that scripture. Speaking of scripture stories, it would be awesome to share more stories about women from history or the scriptures.
