Celebrate

We live in a crazy time. There is no denying it. School is online, Church is restricted, proms cancelled, and weddings restricted in numbers. It is hard to see the good in all this chaos and it is easy to be down about it. For all those who had their graduations, weddings, birthdays, and proms cancelled, I am sorry. I feel your frustration and mourn the loss of these celebrations with you.

Since we can’t have the big celebrations like we used to, this is our new challenge. Let us celebrate all the little things every day. Celebrate drinking enough water, or getting up the first time your alarm rings, trying a new recipe or even getting dressed. Just because these are little achievements, does not make them any less celebration worthy than the big things.

But how, you ask, do we celebrate the small things? I’m a firm believer in a 1 minute dance break when you have accomplished something. You don’t need music (although if you want some, go for it), just dance like no one is watching. Or there is the rewards method. I love to read but I don’t get a lot of time to just sit and read a book anymore, so I make myself a deal. If I can finish my housework in 50 minutes, I can read for 10 minutes before I need to do something else. Celebrate with good habits, such as spending some time outside in the fresh air, treating yourself to a facemask or even just giving yourself the satisfaction of ticking something off on your to do list.

By focusing on the things that are going wrong, we miss the things that are going right. This may require a huge shift in perspective, and it may take time, but it will lead to so much happiness. It doesn’t have to be all at once, just celebrate one thing today. And another tomorrow. Then two things, then three, and you will soon find cause to live your life like it is a celebration. Our Heavenly Father so wants us to be happy, so why not do everything we can to make ourselves happy?

Most importantly, celebrate you. Celebrate the colour of your eyes, the length of your hair and your height. Celebrate your talents and how absolutely amazing you as a person are. You are an amazing daughter of God and you deserve to celebrate yourself.

Do this with me this week and see how you go. I guarantee you that you will come out of this week feeling happier, refreshed and ready to take on the world.
