The new movie Thor: Ragnarok, that came out this past weekend, was filled with humor, Chris Hemsworth, and lots of action. It made me laugh and feel courageous all at the same time. One of my favorite quotes from the movie was, “A wise man never seeks out war but he must always be ready for it” (Thor). In the film it was spoken between the villain and the hero mid battle but, I think that it has a lot to do with our daily lives as Latter-Day Saint women.
Every single day from the moment you wake up until the moment your head hits the pillow at night there is a battle going on in your life. We battle the world with all its’ expectations. We battle sin and its’ temptations. Sometimes we even battle ourselves. We all have different battles that range from bad hair days to addiction nevertheless, we are all battling something. Some days the war seems to overwhelm us. Satan’s forces are just too strong and it seems like we are not making any progress.
Other days the battle seems to seek us out. Satan knows just the right cords to strike. He solicits anger, laziness and jealousy from us like a master. These are the days when you get a flat tire, forget your paper that’s due first period and spill chocolate milk on your white shirt all within an hour. These are the days when life just won’t give you a break. These are the wars that you just can’t seem to get away from no matter how hard you try.
As Latter-Day Saints we have all the right tools to be prepared for when this ever constant combat comes again. And it will come again and it will keep coming. We have ward families, our own families and eternal families that are on our side. We have scripture, literal words of God, to guide us through no man’s land. We have safe houses like the temple to find refuge. Armor is clad about us and we have the sword of the spirit and a shield of faith to defend ourselves. When these wars ravage your life and leave you feeling lost in the casualties do not lose hope. You are a princess. You are the Daughter of a King and because of your divine nature you are given divinely appointed help whenever you need it. You are only as far away from heaven as your knees are to the floor. Thankfully we have someone who has gone ahead of us and cleared a path through the wreckage. Our savior, Jesus Christ, has already won the war. He has already taken our blows and he will stand with us as we prepare and fight the wars of life.
