Have you heard the song “Good Old Days” by Macklemore and Kesha? I recently discovered it, and some of the lyrics were touching to me. These lyrics in particular are applicable to the gospel:
“Wish I wouldn’t have worried about what other people thought and felt comfortable in myself.”
We are children of God, and when we focus on our divine identities, we can have more confidence in ourselves. Knowing that Heavenly Father has given us the opportunity to live on Earth and become more like Him helps us realize the confidence He has in us. All the people around us are children of God, and by remembering that, we know there is eternal purpose in our interactions.
“May we always look back and think it was better than it was.”
I think that when we return to our Father in Heaven, we will look back on our lives on Earth and be extremely grateful for our experiences. Many experiences may be challenging, but they are worth it because of the knowledge that we will be rewarded and reunited with our Heavenly Parents.
“Maybe these are the moments, maybe I’ve been missing what it’s about, been scared of the future, thinking about the past while missing out on now.”
Heavenly Father wants us to look forward to the future with faith, learn from the past, and do what we can in the present to live fulfilling lives. With His help, we can find meaning in every experience.
“Someday these will be the good old days.”
Right now might be a difficult time in your life. But someday, you will look back and think about how much you grew from your experiences. You might even realize that however difficult they were, you miss those good old days. And I believe that through our Savior, every time in our lives can be the good old days.
