Let’s all be real for a sec, waking up for school is not the highlight of our day. Being in school and socializing can be, but actually getting to school in the morning and waking up so early isn’t. Not for me at least. So to grace this problem, here are four of my favorite ways to make the mornings just a bit better.
1. As soon as you tap the STOP button on your alarm, open your scripture app. This may sound cliché and basic but try it. When you open your app immediately, this is the most important step, press the headphone icon. BAM just like that you have a personal reader. If you’re behind in your seminary reading, no prob. In just a few weeks you’’ll be caught up. What about music? Oh that is a good question– that is what the car ride, walk or however else you maneuver to school is for. Perfect time to get your jam on.
2. Occasionally supply yourself with a yummy/decently healthy drink. The night before take a small glass jar, or one of those empty glass (or plastic) juice jars and fill it either with chocolate milk or, if you’re really feeling it, a berry smoothie. Toss it in the refrigerator and grab it on your way out. It will instantly make the day or car ride better.
3. The night before, set out more than one outfit. It’s a simple trick that helps me daily and allows wiggle room. You’ve probably heard a parent tell you to pick out your outfit the night before and I agree with that, except you definitely need more than one. I never know how I’m going to be feelin’ in the morning, ya know? You never know if its going to be a dress day or a mess day. You quite possibly never know.
p.s. If you are trying hard to dress and look your cutest, don’t set out the sweatpants. The sweatpants will always win.
4. Every once in a while set your alarm a little earlier, or be a boss and actually get out of bed when you hear the alarm. Anyways get out the door a tad bit faster, and find the nearest Starbucks or Einsteins/any yummy and quick place to get a bite to eat. If you are looking to make your day even better, grab a bagel or hot chocolate for one of your school janitors. It will make an impact.
Every once in a while, in the dark morning, serve. Whether it be a loved one in your morning prayers or a bagel for a stranger, serve.
